Raising the Bar: The Florida College System Civics Literacy Conference

It has been almost two years since Closing the Gap: The Florida College System Civics Literacy Initiative was officially launched at a workshop at St. Petersburg College. The 2013 workshop brought together College Presidents, Chief Academic Officers, Student Affairs Officers, Deans and Faculty of Social Science, Public Policy Administration Students, and Student Government Representatives representing 24 of the 28 colleges in the Florida College System. Many excellent ideas emerged from the conference on how to advance civics literacy across the Florida College System as well as into the communities we serve.
So how have we done since October 2013? Have we had success at closing the gap? And how can we “Raise the Bar” and continue to expand civics literacy across the Florida College System? Several distinguished panels discussed those questions and more at the follow-up Civics Literacy Conference held at St. Petersburg College on October 29-30, 2015.
